Sequim Community Information

Welcome Home to sunny Sequim Washington!

Sequim enjoys the benefits of a unique location on Washington State’s north Olympic Peninsula. Located just miles away from the lush beauty of a temperate rainforest, Sequim receives only 16 inches of rain per year. Blue sky and sunshine combine with an amazing setting on a small prairie between the mountains and the sea. Look north and you will see the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Look south and you will see the snow capped peaks of the Olympic Mountains. This setting provides phenomenal natural beauty and an endless list of recreational opportunities.

With approximately 30,000 people in the city and the surrounding area, residents and visitors agree that it is just about the right size. Sequim is large enough to have all the conveniences, yet small enough to remain friendly and inviting. In recent years Sequim has gained notoriety as a retirement community, as growing numbers of retirees continue to relocate here. New residents are drawn to Sequim by the temperate climate, long days of sunshine, the relaxed pace of life in a small city, and the relative affordability of living on the Peninsula.

Sequim is also the lavender growing capital of North America. Because of our climate, Sequim is one of the few places lavender grows well in the United States. Lavender farms are constantly expanding, new ones are starting all the time, and lavender has become an important part of our local culture. In the early summer, Sequim has a lavender festival showcasing the many innovative uses for the herb and the products made by local farmers. During this festival there are many activities for visitors, including the street fair, open air market, and farm tour.

Throughout the year residents enjoy open air concerts in the park, walking or biking on the Discovery Trail, boating at the John Wayne Marina, hiking and camping in the Olympic Mountains, indoor swimming and recreation at the YMCA and many other outdoor activities. Sequim residents are also looking forward to the completion of our own emergency medical center and the new performing arts theater.

If you have any questions about life on the peninsula, feel free to contact one of our Realtors. They will be happy to serve you by answering your questions and providing you with a relocation package.
